Maybe you’re hosting Christmas this year, perhaps you’re having a party to celebrate, or maybe you’re just a fan of the season to be jolly and want to make it as festive as possible in your pad. Whatever your reason for sprinkling a little Christmas scent around, we’ve got four ways for you to get in the mood for a merry time, the second you walk in the door.
The Pomander candle
From £20 at Diptyque
This candle smells so strong of Christmas that it’s worth the price tag. You’ll get about 50 hours of burn time from one of these and the fragrance of this particular version fills your home with the aromas of orange, cloves and cinnamon.
The scent of baking makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside no matter what the time of year. But at Christmas, anything with ginger in will create an added aroma that’ll take you right back to your childhood.
£4.49 for a pre-made bottle at Waitrose
If you’re confident you can get it right and are a bit of a whizz in the kitchen you could make your own Mulled Wine from scratch. For those of you with full time jobs or who are less than certain about where to start, go for a pre-made bottle. They’re rather cheap in the supermarkets. Plus you can add your own little touches like orange slices and cinnamon sticks to make it look authentic. Boil it up in a saucepan and let it gently simmer for half an hour before guests arrive and they’ll get a big Christmassy (and slightly alcoholic) hit on arrival.
Get a fresh garland
It’s not just trees and wreaths that can be real or fresh. At most decent florists or at many of the markets around London you can pick up beautiful garlands which come with real pine cones, oranges and berries. They bring the smell of Christmas indoors. And even if you don’t have a fireplace, they look fab hanging over book cases or along the center of a table.
