Some of London's best burger joints

Some of London's best burger joints
Posted by David Bray

There was a time when a burger was the meal of choice at American road-side diners, Mac Donald's, and late night vans parked outside night clubs. But the mince meat patty in a bun has seen something of a resurgence in recent years, with even the most esteemed chefs creating something spectacular. Now there are no end of choices when it comes to getting a good burger in London, so we’ve selected some of our favourite spots in the city for a little fast and fabulous food.

Lucky 7
Westbourne Park Road, W2

This diner-style restaurant has had American celebs like Jake Gyllenhaal pay a visit to get a taste of home during long stints shooting films in the capital. They have a good old fashioned classic burger on the menu, plus there are beers and cocktails to wash it down with on offer.

Tom’s Kitchen
Chelsea / Canary Wharf / Somerset House / St Katherine Docks

Established by chef Tom Aikens, this handful of restaurants are the cool and current option for a good burger. Located in a range of convenient spots around the city, these are easy to get to and look great inside - with a nod to industrial style restaurant kitchens. They’re open from breakfast to lunch and dinner. Oh, and the burger? It’s pretty gourmet.

The Wolseley
Piccadilly, W1

Definitely the place to go for one of the poshest burgers you’ll eat. This grand restaurant is inside a refurbished old car showroom with giant marble pillars and it’s right next to the Ritz. Needless to say it has a price tag to match the interior, but the burger itself is a not-too-frightening £12.75.

Burger and Lobster
Soho / Farringdon / The City / Knightsbridge / Oxford Circus

The city has gone mad for a Burger and Lobster dinner over the last year, so much so that the chain is now opening in New York! They are undoubtedly brilliant burgers as the name would suggest and those who fancy something else can always opt for, you guessed it, a lobster.

Five Guys
Locations across London

The craze that’s something of a staple in the US has made it to London. It’s true that Five Guys is more fast food than fine dining but their burgers are to die for. Filling and freshly cooked, with soft fluffy buns and an entire menu dedicated to the toppings. If you’re happy to eat and run, head to a Five Guys near you.
