A big bash and a charity cheque - it's Outlet's 20th birthday party
Posted by David Bray

More than one hundred supporters, friends, staff members and customers of Outlet attended a big bash to celebrate our 20th birthday!

The sparkling affair was held at Light Lounge, the swish new venue between Soho and Covent Garden, with canapés, champagne, music and plenty of chat and reminiscing. Some of those who attended had been using Outlet’s services since the company was founded in 1995.

Outlet was the first in London to find flatshares and rentals for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people where they could feel safe and be themselves. You can check out our Timeline on Facebook, here. It is massive success story for Soho, an area that has seen the decline of many LGBT-focused businesses and venues this year. Today, two decades later, we're still standing. We are Soho-based but now cover all of central London with a second office in Whitechapel. And we offer sales, lettings, property management, lets with pets, commercial, short lets, penthouses and lofts, and financial services to people from all backgrounds. Josh Rafter, the boss here at Outlet, said it was a fun and slightly emotional evening: “The turn-out was amazing, which is really touching. I knew we would have a big celebration and a good laugh, but I had no idea until Friday night just how much our customer care and kind approach to doing property has been appreciated by such a wide spectrum of people from all over London and now even further afield. The number of customers past and present who showed up to help us celebrate proves that Outlet’s service really matters to people – whether it was back in 1995 or today. I’m so grateful to everyone; customers, staff, long-time Soho residents and friends – for helping us get to where we are today. We couldn’t have done it without them all. Thank you!”

As well as celebrating a successful 20 years in business, Outlet did what Outlet does best by giving back to others. Josh presented a cheque to Gary Wilson from Albert Kennedy Trust, a charity that Outlet has been raising money for through its new furniture range. Every penny of Outlet’s 10% commission from sales of the furniture, white goods and home accessories goes to the not-for-profit organisation that helps young LGBT people who are homeless or going through a crisis.
